Musings on two impulses
This is very timely. I’m on the cusp of the birth of child number three, who will be named Bosco due to my obsessive (quite literally pathological) reading of Malicroix.
Hey congratulations (and what a great name)! I also love Malicroix, but the Child and the River has a special kind of enchantment for me.
It’s a wonderful book. Now every time I eat fish I’m tempted to trace the cross with my knife.
I'm nearly through my fourth time rereading Malicroix. It's become a February ritual.
I wish I could read French, primarily so I could read more Bosco (seriously, every other reason is a distant second place at best).
On your thesis, I completely agree.
It's certainly a great reason to learn; Proust is another. I'm overdue for a Malicroix reread myself.
